Let's ramble!

July 2024

Ohh this one is going to stay with me. I couldn't have asked for a more exciting thesis focus than that of Hellena in The Rover. I am so appreciative to Eleanor Holdridge, our production's director, Alec Wild, the head of our MFA program, and the entire faculty at the academy who supported our efforts and guided us through this rigorous process. And to this cohort, our journey together is just beginning and what at step off this has been! There are no words to express what this time has meant to me. <3

Pardon's the word to all

Combining the Beatles and Shakespeare? Sign me up! This winter I am so thrilled to join the cast of As You Like It at Shakespeare Theatre Company as an understudy for Dame Frances/Dame Senior and Corin/Dame Attendant. This unique take on a beloved classic was conceived by Daryl Cloran & Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival, adapted and directed by Daryl Cloran, and is definitely one you won't want to miss! If you're in the DC area this holiday season, come and share the love love love!

Now Here We Stand, Unafraid of the Future

May 2023

I can't think of a quippy way to share this news because I am just too excited, so here it is: I'm going to graduate school! This has been a dream of mine since I started my journey over ten years ago in my undergraduate program at Ithaca College. This fall I will head to Washington, DC and begin my studies at the Shakespeare Theatre Company Academy, in consortium with George Washington University, to earn my MFA in Classical Acting. I'll be sure to continue to post periodic updates here, so I hope you'll check back in! Meanwhile I'll be frolicking the day away in total gratitude for this new venture. Cheers!

A Very Merry Summer in Windsor

March 2023

As another audition season is in full swing I thought I would pop on here and let you know where to find me this summer: along the Saugatucket River! I will be joining The Contemporary Theatre Company in Wakefield, RI on their "Shakespeare by the River" production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. I'll be prattling away as Mistress Quickly :)

The Story Behind the Cool Moose

January 2023

My first creative performance project of the year hold a deeply personal place in my heart: narrating the audiobook for The Cool Moose: Robert J. Healey Jr. Beyond the Beard, my dad, Lawrence Verria's second published historic non-fiction book! The Cool Moose tells the story of a quirky local politician in Rhode Island, and the greater implications of his career and life. Check it out on Audible soon!

"I will move on I will make the T pay!"

August of 2021 I got an email that I had booked a lead in a musical… today I took my final bow with the hilarious company of T: An MBTA Musical. This show has been such a fun project for the last year and a half, a sweet, goofy, late night on-again-off-again Boston affair. Thanks for letting me be “Alice” lost in “Wonderland” (Station). I made it out of here!

An A+ Weekend at Sister School

July 2022

Just wanted to hop on here to share these production photos (by Adam Richins) with you! Boston's first New Works Festival was a smashing success and I am so proud to have been apart of it. Thank you so much to David Freeman Coleman (playwright, composer, and music director) and Maura Tighe (director) for steering this ship so beautifully!

I am so excited to join in on the fun in Moonbox Productions' Boston New Works Festival this summer. I will be apart of David Coleman's new original musical Sister School in the role of Eleanor Friedan,  the Head of Victoria School, fighting to keep the doors of her historic all-girls school open. Late Night Singin
on the T

September 2021

Very excited about this one! After the past 18 months, this opportunity to perform on stage to a LIVE audience almost feels unreal. In this show I will be performing the role of Alice, a woman whose plans and dreams are thwarted left and right by the inefficient "T!" Come on by The Rockwell every other Friday this fall/winter to see how she makes it through. (Click the image below for more show info)

And All the Men and Women are Merely Players

July 2021

Picture
This summer I had the pleasure to train under the magnificent faculty at the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company Apprenticeship Program in Boston.  Learning the ways of Shakespeare's language, I found, is much like learning to be a musical theatre performer. Once you learn the rules and understand the cleverness of the composition, only then can you know what your characters are trying to express and where there is room to play and discover more. Studying under Bryn Boice, Paul D'Agostino, and Mihir Kumar weekly, in addition to masterclasses with Anthony Rapp, Regine Vital, and Flora Diaz,  I felt so supported and empowered to continue my growth as an artist!

"Everything's as if we never said goodbye..."

April 2021

Ok, ok, I know that I am far from the first or last person who will make that Sunset Boulevard reference about "the biz" opening back up, but I couldn't help myself. The fact is, in many ways things are far from normal as I perform in my first post-vaccine, socially distanced show. Off camera we are all in masks, the only live audience in the space is other actors waiting to go on, and, since we are streaming live, the only real audience reception is found out later, after the show, as we turn our phones back on and the instagram comments and texts start pouring in. In this weirdness, I am so grateful to work with this awesome little theatre that allows all us artists to feel healthily safe and creatively free. Check out the show clip below, and click the "button" for show ticket and on-demand viewing info :)

A Neil Labute Kind of Start to 2021

Another New Year, another virtual play performance!
I guess this is the new normal now? Absurd new reality aside, I am quite excited to be participating in my second project with the MMAS Black Box Theatre in Mansfield, MA. Directed by Becky Smith, this production of Neil LaBute's Autobahn is a thoughtful, funny, heartbreaking look at all the conversations had in the middle of "here" and "there." More show details to come soon!

Virtual Advocacy Through Theatre: #ENOUGH

December 2020

Finishing off this year with a powerful evening of theatre was such a gift. #ENOUGH: Plays to End Gun Violence is a collection of one act plays written by school children about the impact of gun violence in schools and beyond. I had the privilege to play the role of "Ms. Martin" in the piece "Ms. Martin's Malaise," directed by Meredith Healy, a story that expresses the anxiety and malaise that teachers often feel about guns and violence in schools. I hope you'll check out our live stream of The Wilbury Theatre Group's virtual event below :)

The Great Audiobook Adventure!

August 2020

Picture
A silver lining in this strange new world is that I've finally carved out the time to start an adventure that I've been curious about for a long time: audiobook narration! In just a few months I've got my home studio set up, figured out the tech, and booked, recorded, and published my first audiobook. The book is The Emotionally Intelligent Manager by Peter Salovey and David R. Caruso and it will be out on Audible soon. In a time of such uncertainty and anxiety in the theatre and arts worlds, having this new "socially distant" performance opportunity has been huge, and such fun! I'm beyond grateful for the help of coach Elise Arsenault, The Global Actor, and The Treecave studio (and their course "The Great Audiobook Adventure") for coaching and guiding me through this first book, and look forward to seeing where this new venture takes me!

A Christmas-in-July Virtual One-Act Festival? Sure!

July 2020

Picture
Hey there! Dropping on here quick to share a cute 'lil project I was happy to lend a hand in. Back in the days before COVID was even a blip on our radar I enjoyed the weekly pleasure of teaching theatre courses at The Artists' Exchange in Cranston, RI to the fabulous clients of Gateways to Change, adults with special needs. Weekly we would practice theatre games and exercises, do playwriting and performance projects, and explore the creative process together. Well, during one of those weeks we did a playwriting project that ended up getting chosen as a piece to be featured in The Artists' Exchange's Annual One-Act Play Festival! And then COVID happened and the Artists' Exchange programming, like so many in the arts education space, was put on pause. I assumed our little play would never see the light of day, until I got an email from a coworker that we were going virtual! So, long story short, please enjoy this bright moment of community cheer in what seems like a never-ending spiral of uncertainty for the arts :)

Check out the full length one act performance here!

Walk On with Hope in Your Heart

May 2020

Need a shot of hope in uncertain times? Look no further. Participating in this "virtual choir" was such fun and the end result sounds more beautiful than I imagined! Thanks to
Harrison Sheckler for coordinating this project. Check out the video below, see if you can find me!

Making It Work in the Age of COVID-19

April 2020

WOOF... what a year this past month has been! Where I live in Rhode Island, we have been practicing social distancing and staying home for about 3 and a half weeks now. Just like many artists and teaching artists around the world, I've lost work due to this craziness and am constantly looking for new opportunities to continue my work in a new, socially distant kinda way. However, there has been some levity to this new challenging time. I've been singing, playing guitar, going for walks, practicing yoga, and crushing the puzzle game with my roomie more than ever before. I'm also so inspired by how so many artists are sharing their craft online and spreading joy to combat all this global anxiety. In addition to the chill out time, I've also begun work on some new projects that I'm excited about too, like teaching online! Below I've attached a link to information on my new Skillshare course that I've launched ("Creating Your Rehearsal Schedule," designed to help first time directors at the start of a theatrical project) and I would love if you could check it out. In fact, you can try the site for free with a 2 month trial just by following this link :) I sincerely hope that you and yours are weathering this storm well. I look forward to seeing everyone IRL, on the other side of this!

Opening/Closing Night!

February 2020

I just wanted to pop on here and offer an update and moment of gratitude for the start of 2020. As a working actor, the start of a new year is always chaotic with audition season and planning for the year ahead. Taking on a directing project during this time felt a little nutty at the beginning of January, but in retrospect I am so glad that I was able to make it work! Having a creative, collaborative outlet actually proved to be a nice balance to what can feel like an isolating experience of trying to fit into the needs of other projects. Our production of Matthew Freeman's play That Which Isn't is a one-night-only event as a part of the Springboard season at Contemporary Theatre Company in Wakefield, RI. Production photos and event info available below! And as a peek into the audition season madness, below there is also a short clip of a flute piece I recently sent in as a part of a callback submission. I've been playing since I was 10 years old and this song ("Ashoken Farewell") is still one of my very favorite pieces!

More details to come :)

Revisiting Lenny Magrath

August 2019

Picture
Crimes of the Heart is one of the first plays I remember being assigned to read at Ithaca College. I remember loving the story of three sisters, being one of three sisters myself, and even moreso the character of Lenny Magrath. Lenny was this woman who was trapped in her own web of responsibilities, regrets, and insecurities, but she wasn't weak. I ended up performing one of Lenny's monologues in that first semester Acting class and got to live in her shoes for just a few moments of class. Little did I know that I would be cast as her in this 2019 production at MMAS! Lenny is such a rich, complicated character and I have loved this opportunity to get to know my old friend again :) If you're in the area, you won't want to miss this one! I'll include the link for tickets below.

Let's Fringe!

July 2019

July brings the Fringe Festival here in Providence, RI and I am so jazzed to join in the fun this year! I'm performing in Seed and Ivy Theatre Co.'s production of Bedtime Stories with a talented company of Fringe newbies and we truly can't contain our excitement. This summer has just brought me so much to be grateful for and I really feel revived by these wonderful chances to perform and teach in the great RI theatre community!

New Horizons in Teaching

May 2019

Picture
In addition to some wonderful performance opportunities, Summer 2019 has also brought really fulfilling teaching artist work for me, including this chance to work with an incredible human services non-profit, Gateways to Change. I am so excited to join the Artists' Exchange teaching artist team in Cranston, RI where I will teach theatre classes three days a week with Gateways to Change's clients, adults with special needs. We will primarily work on script writing, acting, directing, and improv activities and I can't wait to get started.

A Look Back: Peter Pan

March 2019

Check out the promo video for Norwood Theatre's recent production of Peter Pan where I enjoyed dreaming as "Grown Up Wendy" as well as prancing around with the Pirate Ensemble! Onto the next project! More details to come :)

Here We Go!
Audition Season, 2019!

February 2019

It's that time of year again; audition season! Since graduating from Ithaca, I have been so blessed with performance, directing, and teaching opportunities here in Southern New England, but staring down this new year as a full-time freelancer, my head SPINNING with the possibilities! Print out those stacks of head shots and resumes, let's do this!
Just a lil' pre-audition warm up diddy :)

Flying Away to the Land of Pirates!

November 2018

From a goofy pirate, to a mature "Grown Up Wendy," to a fly technician helping the children actors take flight, this experience of being in Peter Pan with Norwood Theatre can only be described with one word: joyful! In the pirate ensemble, director Michael Hammond encouraged us to embrace all of the goofy clown elements of the characters and every rehearsal truly felt like training with an improv troupe. That, beautifully balanced with the "Grown Up Wendy" scene work I got to partake in with Equity veteran Jennifer Glick as Peter Pan, rounded out this show as an incredible kickstart into the new 2018-19 theatrical season!

As I travel on my way...

June 2018

Picture
The day has finally arrived, to say goodbye to my teaching position at Mt. Hope High School as I transition to freelancing full-time. This job, these students, and this community welcomed me and supported me in ways I could never repay, though I strived to make them proud everyday both with my work in the classroom and through the performances we produced on the Mt. Hope stage. I am forever grateful for this opportunity and am excitedly looking forward to what the future will bring! Featured on the right is where I "signed the wall" of the theater, a Mt. Hope High School alumni tradition. This NTI motto was one that my students heard from me often in class and rehearsal. May they remember it always, on and off the stage!

"Our days are tied to curtains, they rise and they fall."

May 2018

Picture
My how time flies! Another show wrapped at Mt. Hope Theatre. I was extremely proud of the finished product this time around. As I watched some of my strongest acting students take their final "senior bow" at the end of this production, I swear I time traveled to that very moment for me during my senior year of high school. The opportunity to revisit high school theatre in all of its craziness, heartache, and glory through this position is one for which I will be forever grateful. Indeed it is true that "we're a special kind of people known as show people, we live in a world full of dreams. Some times we're not too certain what's false and what's real, but we're seldom in doubt about what we feel."

Once Upon a Winter

January 2018

Back at FPAC and psyched to share this hilarious tale! This time, under the direction of fellow Ithaca alumn Larry Sousa, I get to goof around in Once Upon a Mattress as Princess No.12 and a "Lady in Waiting." The direction of this production has been so focused on using extreme physicality and physical comedy to accent the already incredibly witty book. I'm so in love with the world we've created on this stage and am thrilled at the opportunity to mess around in it! If you find yourself in New England this winter, don't miss this one!

Keeping Warm with The Arsonists

November 2017

Picture
Every production I've directed as Theatre Director/Teacher at Mt. Hope High School is a blessing, but this one may have been my favorite production so far. Max Frisch's masterpiece, The Arsonists, is ever-relevant in its warnings of blind, willful ignorance. The students excelled in their performances and we could not have been more proud of the final product!

Thank you, Fun Home

November 2017

Picture
Do you have that one show that just fills you with joy and appreciation for all that theatre is capable of? I have several, one of which is Fun Home. I am so grateful that this show exists and just as grateful that I got to see this production for the third time (first time in the proscenium staging)  as the tour passed through Providence, RI!

Checking in: Summer in Duloc

July 2017

Summer 2017 started off with a bang! I had SUCH a blast singing, tapping, and grooving with the eccentric cast of characters at BSU's Family Performing Arts Center this summer. Check out just a few of the memories we shared on stage in Shrek the Musical!
